Best Family Hotels in Cusco

You need this guide to the best family hotels in Cusco if you are going to stay  in the heart of the Inca Empire in Cusco, Belly Button of the World! Cusco is an excellent place to base yourself for 5 days to a week, especially if travelling with children or looking for an immersion experience with plenty of access to world class amenities.

Cusco was our home for 10 years, and in the 5 years since we have left it’s the place that “it feels like coming home” on our frequent visits.  Unlike all of the other hotel reviews on our blog, we have NOT STAYED in any of these hotels… however, as the owners of a Cusco travel agency we have visited each and every one of these family hotels over the years, (for multiple property inspections), had clients – and some friends – stay in them.

Cusco has a lot of luxury properties – from hotel inspections we believe that most of them would be suitable for children.    We have started with the more affordable prices in this list, ending with the three luxury properties.

Helpful facilities at the Andariego Hostal

Best Family Hotels in Cusco – Budget/Economical

Andariego Hostal – our long term ‘family favorite allows you to stay in the heart of Cusco’s historic center and close to the action, but on a commercial (not tourist) street. This modest hostal is tastefully and charmingly decorated with two rooms featuring chimneys. Families have access to a kitchen, pizza oven and grassed picnic areas.  There are rooms suitable for up to 5 people.  Click here for full property details of  Andariego Hostal

Niños Hotel 1 & 2 – located in colonial homes on Calles Meloq and Fierro, with a cheerful atmosphere. Proceeds from the two hotels support a Children’s Foundation, which provides twice daily meals at 5 “restaurants” in the Cusco area.  These basic hotels have the choice of private or shared showers, and clean, functional rooms.   While the main benefit of a stay here is knowing you are contributing to a good cause, you can certainly ask if there are any activities where you can help out local children. Click here for full property details of Niños Hotel 1 & 2

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAInkarri Hostal – a good choice for family hotel in Cusco, the Inkarri about 3 blocks from the Plaza de Armas.   The simple rooms are centered on two big grassed courtyards with room for kids to run.  Located on a narrow one way street, larger buses can’t reach the hotel and it isn’t pram accessible.  However still a good choice for families on a budget.  Rooms at the back are newer/ further from the street.  Click here for full property details of Inkarri Hostal

Rumi Punku means ‘stone door’ in Quechua, and you arrive at Hotel Rumi Punku through this Inca construction. One of Cusco’s most established mid-range hotels, there are nice rooms, a reasonably sized courtyard and lots of atmosphere!  We would opt for the newer rooms, described as ‘Superior.’ Click here for full property details of Rumi Punku

Best Family Hotels in Cusco – Mid-range

Royal Inka II – an older style hotel on the charming and quiet Plaza Regocijo and probably the best located hotel on the whole list. With a beautiful exterior, this hotel is a little dated but offers a newer section with connecting rooms for families, or a loft section. Click here for full property details of  Royal Inka II

Hotel Arqueólogo Full of charm and atmosphere, this is a beautiful option and centrally located close to the upmarket Plaza Nazarenas.   Hotel Arquelogo is a converted colonial house with many cozy rooms. For families we would opt for suites, with elegant four poster beds or the loft rooms. Click here for full property details of Hotel Arqueólogo

Quinua Villa Boutique – a quiet B&B, with only 6 apartments in the whole complex, and is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Cusco.   Each apartment has a living room, kitchenette and a bedroom so you can cook a simple meal, plus have ample space inside for kids to play.   Note, that this cute apartment B&B is located on different terrace levels and up from the street, so you need to have no access issues (not good for toddlers probably). There is a lovely courtyard, and you can climb all the way up for a sweeping view to town. Click here for full property details of Quinua Villa Boutique

Casona La Recoleta Apartment Style Hotel – Tucked away on Recoleta Street (a street we lived in for some time) this place offers a flat walk to the Plaza de Armas (yes this is important in Cusco!) This is a family style apartment hotel which offers value for money. Rooms are small and decorated in Cusco style, the gardens natural and relaxing!  Click here for full property details of Casona La Recoleta Apartment Style Hotel

Best Family Hotels in Cusco – Luxury

The following family hotels iu Cusco all fit in the Luxury hotel category. As they have impeccable service & standards, AND swimming pools they are popular with families travelling with children to Cusco.

2013-08-09 11.20.10

JW Marriott Cusco El Convento – the gorgeous reception area and the indoor heated pool are two of the standout features of this, one of Cusco’s newer hotels.   Travelling with small children or if you have a focus on reliable 5 class service would be reasons to choose this new hotel…  The cheaper rooms are underground and this is a less personalized service than other hotels on the list. But it’s safe, secure and the pool gets this hotel onto the list.  Click here for full property details of JW Marriott Cusco El Convento

Casa Cartagena – still relatively new Casa Cartagena is one of Cusco’s most spectacular luxury properties… Build in an UNESCO World Heritage site building the redecoration is all done by a super-modern Italian designer…. It has to be seen to be believed and is very, very beautiful and cool. Highly splurge-worthy. Rooms are large, the courtyard ample and with a spa where you can enjoy the warm water. Click here for full property details of Casa Cartagena

Belmond Palacio Nazarenas – an opulent hotel that could only be described as splurge worthy… with stunning rooms that can have oxygen or the aroma of Andean herbs piped into them, this is one of the most celebrated luxury hotels in Peru.  It hits this list for us because it has an outdoor heated swimming pool.  Click here for full property details of Belmond Palacio Nazarenas

There are many other family hotels in Cusco that we would consider for a stay with children,   these include:

Casa Andina Private Collection – Located in Limacpampa with great courtyards, try not to get a room on the road.
