Things to do in Lima for Kids

For many, Lima is an enormous grey city – and it is. However, due to its large population there is much to see and do for kids.  I feel like we have only scratched the surface of finding out what there is in Lima for Kids.  We originally included these in the blog Lima with Kids: Things to do in Miraflores with Children but decided to separate them, as they are all located in areas outside of Miraflores.

  1. Magic Water Circuit

The Magic Water Circuit in Lima is awesome!  A place where, for just 10 soles entry fee you can play with the kids or reconnect your inner child.   Given the fountains are most spectacular at night, it makes sense to head here on dusk…. And join the locals in a heady exploration of the wonderful coloured fountains changing colours.  This is something for all the family and we give the Magic Water Circuit a 10 /10.   Hint: take some spare clothes to change into!  Also, we would recommend either organising a car from your hotel or transfer back as it’s a non-touristy part of Lima to be catching a taxi if you are not familiar with Lima.

  1. Plaza de Armas

Miraflores is certainly the most accessible and child friendly area in Lima – but we also love making heading into the Central area of Lima which has a lot of atmosphere!  With narrow streets, lots of traffic, it feels much more like “Peru”.    The Plaza de Armas, flanked by the presidential palace and the Cathedral is a good place to run and visit – and if you are feeling like shopping or fast food we have always enjoyed a walk down Jiron de La Union, the main shopping mall.

  1. Pilgrimage to two of Peru’s most Venerated – Santa Rosa of Lima and the Lord of the Miracles.

Ever since her first trip to Lima, Mumma Traveller has visited the Sanctuary of Santa Rosa of Lima, where she has written a letter and posted it in the wishing well.  As such, our trips to the Sanctuary of Santa Rosa, and the Church of the Nazarenas, which holds the image of the Lord of the Miracles have an aspect of Pilgrimage.

As a tourist, the Sanctuary of Santa Rosa is a quiet, walled garden which provides respite from the noise and bustle of Lima.  The walk from there along the busy Avenida Tacna, is filled with colourful candles, images of many saints (which Little Miss has always enjoyed, thinking that they looked quite doll like) and Turron (a sickly sweet) is enjoyable.

What will we do on our next trip to Lima, Peru, with Kids?

Our next trip to Lima the Kids will be 7 and 4, and these are things we have already put on the to-do list.  We also imagine that we will do many of the things

  1. Parque de la Imaginacion
  2.  Parque de la Amistad in Santiago de Surco
  3. Peruvian Paso Horses (requested by Little Miss)
  4. Parque de las Leyendas
  5. Mini Mundo
  6. Huaca Pucllana in Miraflores
