Like the song goes, everything is awesome at Legoland Malaysia. We had a truly awesome time at the Legoland Malaysia Theme Park and it was our kid’s favourite place in over 3 weeks of travel. There are many Legoland Malaysia reviews out there on the internet. Therefore what could we offer you that is different than other Legoland Malaysia review blogs?
First up, we are going to share with you what we did at Legoland Malaysia Theme Park and Water Park over 2 days, starting with how we got from Singapore to Legoland and why that was a great choice! We are also going to share with you how we managed the heat at Legoland Malaysia Theme Park and what we did to get our tickets to Legoland Singapore. Last up, we’ll share some of our favourite activities for our kids aged 5 and 9. We did our trip to Legoland as part of a trip to Singapore. Our Holiday at Legoland Malaysia Theme Park – A Brief Overview
Our day started at 7.30am at our hotel in Singapore, the Village Hotel Bugis which we strongly recommend for families travelling to Singapore.
For our travel from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia we hired a private car that we purchased online. We were allowing 2.5 hours to arrive prior to Legoland opening at 10am. We’d read that if there was a traffic jam it could take between 2 and 3 hours if you were stuck at the cross border bridge. Remember the Johor-Singapore Causeway is one of the world’s busiest border crossings. Pre pandemic there were up to 350,000 travelers each day!
In good conditions, the Singapore to Legoland travel time takes about 1 hour, and that’s exactly how long it took us. There were not long lines at the border crossing and the driver had all our passports organized as we went through. We arrived at the hotel Legoland Malaysia just before 9 am and were able to check in with no queues at all. As expected, our room was not ready but we were able to put our luggage in a secure and safe storage area.
And, guess what? The reception of the Legoland Singapore Hotel is totally, totally awesome with loads of Lego to play with… and Lego features. I can’t describe the excitement from the children that morning. We all were so excited, even at the Lego themed toilets!
We were waiting at the gates at 10am – they were just a 5 minute walk from the hotel. With our tickets purchased online we jumped the small queues and spent no time waiting to get in. As such, we spent from 10 am to 4 pm on Day 1 of our Legoland Malaysia Theme Park visit in the actual theme park making the best use of our time.
However, the excitement wasn’t ended for us. We headed back to the Legoland Resort Hotel where we were able to quickly pick up our room keys and organize for the luggage to be delivered. More excitement as we danced in the Legoland lifts and then arrived in our Ninjago themed room. More about the details of this totally awesome and splurge worthy room below in our review of the hotel at Legoland Malaysia! We then chose to hang out in the Legoland Singapore Resort pool to freshen off.
That evening we ate at the Mall of Medini, which is about 7 minutes’ walk from the resort.
The next morning the Malaysia Legoland awesome-ness continued as we enjoyed the Lego themed buffet breakfast before a leisurely morning in the air-con. Day 2 mostly involved us returning to our favorite rides (time and time again) and more 3D movies. By mid-afternoon we sadly decided that we could have stayed for another day at the park. However, it was time to use our double pass and head to the Legoland Malaysia Water Park. We spent about 2 hours there until it closed at 5pm. Once again it felt like it was not enough time but everyone was also completely fulfilled and Lego happy.
The next morning we took another private car to travel from Legoland to the Singapore Changi Airport where we were to continue the next section of our holiday. Again the transfer took about an hour and was seamless!

How Much Time Should I Spend at Legoland Singapore?
The most popular ticket is a 2-day park pass which allows you unlimited access to both the Legoland Malaysia Theme Park and the Legoland Malaysia Water Park over two days. How you decided to split the days between parks in totally up to you. However, we think that two days spent at Legoland is an absolute bare minimum. We easily could have spent 3 days at the Legoland Theme Park and another full day at the Legoland Malaysia Water Park.
If this is you first visit to the Legoland Malaysia Theme Park we recommend, at least two days. However, if you have been before or are simply short on time you could do a day trip to Legoland from Singapore. However, you might leave feeling like you didn’t get to spend enough time exploring and if traveling from Singapore this would make for a really long day.
Day Trip to Legoland from Singapore
You may see reviews for Legoland Singapore or even be confused that Legoland Malaysia is actually Legoland Singapore. For us, to do Legoland in a day would have been way too much! However, if you are short of time this is how you would do it.
You would require one to two hours prior to arriving at Legoland, and then another two hours back, and it would be an extremely long day. For us it was more than enough to spend two days at Legoland Singapore.
Where is the Legoland Malaysia Theme Park & Legoland Malaysia Water Park?
The theme park Legoland Malaysia is also referred to as Legoland Singapore or Legoland Johor. Legoland Singapore is technically located just 45km from central Singapore. It is located in the outskirts of Johor Bahru, which is about an hour drive from Singapore central. However, you must go through a border crossing exiting out of Singapore and into Malaysia on the way. Traffic and how busy the border crossing is, all factor into how long it actually takes to get from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia.
As I said before, we booked a private transfer which took us a total of about one hour each way. Booking a private transfer is the easiest and most efficient way to get from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia and back.
What is the Best Time of the Year to Visit Legoland Malaysia Theme Park?
How to escape the heat? There is no getting away from Legoland Malaysia’s location; it is an extremely hot place, not far from the equator. Whether you visit during the rainy season or in the dry season, the heat is going to get to you. Lucky for you- a lot of the Legoland rides are actually indoors. We managed the heat by balancing one indoor activity with an outdoor activity and trying to do each of the Legoland Worlds at once.
There are also Legoland movies and shows which give you about 45 minutes to 1 hour out of the heat. If you’re planning your day, know that there are many food outlets around the different worlds of Legoland Malaysia Theme Park but not all of them are air conditioned. In addition, we would highly recommend visiting LEGO NINJAGO the ride which is air-conditioned! It was easily one of our favourite places!
What Will Legoland be Like for my X Aged Child?
So if you are reading this Legoland Malaysia blog you are probably thinking, “What will Legoland be like for my X aged child”? We will do our best to help, within our experience! Our whole family absolutely loved the theme park Legoland Malaysia. It really does offer something for the whole family! Our favourite rides were the water splash ride in Adventure Land, which was as good for our 76 year-old grandmother, as well as the nine-year-old and the mother.
We loved the Legoland Mindstorms workshop, putting together a small robotic model, and then programming it to do certain activities. It was one of our favourite activities as a whole family, as was doing the fire trucks in LEGO City which involved a great deal of pumping, sweating, and laughing!
The whole family also really loved the Legoland movies, which are in 3D. They included many realistic effects, including water and wearing 3D glasses. Also they were air-conditioned so a relief from the heat!
It’s not age – its size – there are height requirements!
Perhaps a more important question is not “How is Legoland for 3 year old”? But how big is my child? There are height and age requirements at Legoland, and the park was strict on these safety rules. In short, if your child is too short, then there is no way you can convince the attendants to let them on.
Most rides have height restrictions between 80-110cm, with some of the more ‘exciting’ ones requiring a minimum height of over 110cm. A 2 year old is likely to miss out on many rides, whereas a three year old might have grown just enough. However, it is going to depend on their size, not their age!
Legoland for a Five-Year-Old
Our Lego crazy five-year-old was so overwhelmed and full of excitement, he didn’t know where to look. His favourite ride was the Dragon’s Apprentice, which was a very achievable roller coaster for a five-year-old. He also loved the NINJAGO Virtual Reality Ride, and the Pharaoh’s Ride.
Legoland for a Nine-Year-Old
Our less Lego enthusiastic nine-year-old girl absolutely loved Legoland. It was definitely her favourite part of our three week family holiday. She loved the Dragon Roller Coaster, and the VR Ride. Legoland Malaysia Theme Park offers the world’s first VR roller coaster ride. This means virtual reality you place goggles on your head, and then do the roller coaster. They will allow younger children who meet a certain height requirement to do the VR ride, but without the goggles.

Second pro tip is actually you focus the goggles to make it more realistic.
Without a doubt, for a mother daughter combo, Dino Island was our favourite – a thrilling journey up a lost, forgotten volcano on a log boat. The getting wet over and over again really cooled us down. I’d say by the time she reaches her teen years Legoland might not have the same appeal.
Legoland for Smaller Kids (2-3 Year Olds)
If you are thinking of a Legoland holiday with toddlers, it’s a large park and some distance between the suitable rides. There is lots of walking for little ones, in the heat as well. Also, there were quite a few rides that the little ones couldn’t ride due to age and height restrictions. This could really make them disappointed if their older and slightly bigger siblings can.
We didn’t try the Royal Joust ride, but it sounded like it would be good for a 2-3 year old. You ride your Lego horse through a medieval forest, and experience other jousting knights and enchanted creatures along the way. Another fun ride for the youngsters would be to take the Legoland Express Train around the park.
I’ve seen some not overwhelming reviews about visits to Legoland with toddlers. They are possibly not old enough to do all the rides, and quite impatient too.
What Baby Facilities are there at Legoland Singapore?
In addition to travelling to Legoland with our kids aged 5 and 9, we were with a 7 month old baby. It’s fair to say that she had her moments at the theme park. It was a long hot day and, from a baby’s perspective, the screaming rides and sensory overload put her at her threshold. It probably was not her favourite part of the trip, but she survived the two days and so did we.
There’s a fully air-conditioned parent’s room in the Legoland World. There are bottle warmers and microwaves to warm up food. There are also high-chairs to use while feeding. Family restrooms are easy to find throughout the park that have baby changing stations in them.
We also decided to splurge and stay at the Legoland Resort or the hotel Legoland Malaysia. One of the main reasons being if the baby couldn’t cope, one of the adults could retire to the room with her. As it turned out she was a real trooper and the breaks in the 3D movies and the parent’s room were enough. However, we had the option if we needed it.
How to Travel from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia
The main ways of travel form Singapore to Legoland Malaysia are:
- Self drive
- Private car from a reputable company
- Taxi or Uber
- Coach
- Public bus
While it is possible to take a bus from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia, you really need to weigh out the pros and cons. Yes, it does tend to be cheaper than taking a private care or tax. However, you must carry all your bags, coordinate pick up and drop off points, and crossing the border takes more time with significantly more people. Private car hires specialize in efficiently transporting customers from Singapore to Legoland and Legoland to Singapore. We chose taking a private car from a reputable company for many reasons. For example, you will be comfortable in clean, fully air-conditioned cars with ample legroom. You also don’t have to worry about your luggage. In all our overseas travels we also really appreciate having reliable and experienced drivers. In cities where there the traffic can be congested having a specialist driver can avoid the heavy traffic areas and take alternative routes so you don’t spend a lot of travel time.
Furthermore, having a well maintained and serviced car with good tires is really important to us when travelling with kids. As is not spending a lot of time waiting in queues at the border.
Legoland Malaysia Water Park Review
HOT Tip! I’d recommend you to visit this water park in Malaysia late in the day when it’s not so hot. The sun is very, very hot and will burn you quickly.
The Legoland Malaysia Water Park tickets are included with most standard Legoland entry tickets. We spent so much time at the “main event” (the Legoland Theme Park) that we didn’t visit the water park until the end of the second day. It was packed full of people. Maybe because it was late in the day, or maybe it’s just a smaller area, so it seems busy.
There is a lazy river which is for all ages. Also a fun and suitable kids play area with four water slides which were for all the kids up to four or five years old. For those looking for a little bit more of a challenge, there’s tall water slides which are breathtaking and challenging for the older kids. Yes, there are lots of steps up and you’ll wear yourself out running to the top! My kids were pretty tired after full two days at Legoland, so they an absolute ball floating and collecting colourful soft Lego bricks along the Build-a-Raft River and we didn’t end up doing the tall slides However, we made up for that at the Splash Park in Thailand.
There’s also the Duplo Splash Safari designed for babies and toddlers. It is a safe space for tiny tots to splash around in and interact with the adorable water-spraying animals.
Review Legoland Hotel Malaysia
If Legoland is awesome, so is the Legoland Hotel Johor. From the moment that you arrive, and you discover large scale pirate sized Lego in the lobby, huge pits filled with Lego blocks, and a castle to play in, you will be in heaven. This is no normal hotel lobby. There are kids running around everywhere and parents sitting and building Legos. It was truly one of the most awesome things we have ever seen in our entire lives. You really feel young at heart!
Room Types at the Hotel Legoland Malaysia
Each room at the Legoland Hotel Johor Bahru has two separate sleeping areas. One sleeping area with a king size bed for the adults. The other sleeping area for up to three children including a bunk bed with a trundle bed pull-out, and their own tv and play area.
There are several themed areas in the hotel: Pirate, Adventure and Kingdom, each available in themed, premium or suite standard. The newest theme available at Legoland Malaysia is the Ningajo rooms! In our case my 5 year old was fully into Lego Ninjago, and so we paid a little bit extra and got our very own NINJAGO themed room. We were lucky enough to request the only “Zane” room in the hotel. We didn’t know this until we arrived. Later on we peeked outside our door to see Zane fans taking pictures with our door and with the different NINJAGO characters down the hallway. So if you’re keen on NINJAGO, and want to do something super special, then make sure you book early and request your favourite character!
Apart from the really fabulous décor of the entire hotel (mirror balls in the lift!) the rooms are sure to give you Lego-fied dreams with a sumptuous main bedroom. It is cleverly closed off from the kids section where they’ve got bunk beds. One of the highlights for our kids was the opening of the safe in the rooms, which they had to look for clues and get a Lego present.
Included in our room rate was a super delicious Lego themed breakfast buffet. One of the best buffets that we had ever had, and a total hit with the kids.
Activities at the Hotel at Legoland Malaysia
We stayed 2 nights at the Legoland Hotel Johor. While it was far more than our usual budget, it was worth every penny. My kids still talk about the hotel to this day, and if we had our chance again I would do it in a heartbeat. We were truly sad when leaving this amazing hotel.
Shows at Legoland Hotel
We spent so much time at Legoland and the Legoland Water Park we didn’t even utilize all the things going on at the hotel Legoland Malaysia. For example, there were character appearances, building competitions and magic trick performances. Information on all of these activities are displayed in the main lobby, and will vary depending on when you visit.
Brick Pits
There are brick pits all around the hotel, not just in the amazing lobby. For example, any seating areas have brick pits where the kids can stop and have a play. After the sensory overload of the theme park, the kids seemed pretty happy to just chill and quietly build.
Shopping
There are also a couple of shops at the Legoland Resort plus a small Lego Store, and also a gift shop – mostly with Lego items of course but also swimming costumes, sun creams and such, should you need any of them.
If you are going to buy some Legos while at Legoland, it’s not as cheap as you could get in a department store. You will find that the different shops around the park have different offerings. For example, there was a broader Ninjago section in the shop in the Ninjago section of the park.
Our Verdict on the hotel at Legoland Malaysia
For us it was worth the money to splurge on the Legoland Malaysia Hotel. The rooms were quite out of this world, and the ability to be at the theme park at opening time and until closing was another real bonus. We had initially thought that the grandmother in our party, and the baby would come back to the hotel for a middle of the day sleep, but it never eventuated.
How Much do Legoland Malaysia Tickets Costs?
The Legoland Malaysia ticket price really depends on a few factors. In general, it is cheaper to book tickets to Legoland Malaysia and an accommodation package together – especially if you are staying on-site at the Legoland Hotel Malaysia.
Of course what you choose will depend on your length of stay, your accommodation choice, and if you choose a multiple park pass or just the Legoland Theme Park. One day tickets range anywhere from RM189 for adults for only the main theme park to RM313 for a triple park pass. So that is about 101 AUD or 70 USD for an adult one-day triple park pass.
Also, we recommend booking your tickets in advance. Legoland Malaysia Theme Park can be extremely crowded. Booking your tickets in advance not only assures you will be able to visit on a chosen day, but also saves time at the gates not having to wait in line to purchase tickets. Legoland Malaysia Theme Park on a Budget
You don’t have to stay in the Legoland hotel, though in our opinion it was awesome and a very worthwhile splurge. My brother and his family stayed at an Airbnb just down the road, less than ten minutes’ walk from Legoland. It cost them the princely amount of 39 Australian per night and in an absolutely massive Airbnb. And, as a result, it was actually much cheaper than staying in Singapore per night for them. So they stayed three nights.
We also found that eating in the Medini Mall, just up the road from Legoland, avoided us the cost of eating in the on-site facilities. There was a KFC and Burger King, and more. We ate in a typical Chinese style restaurant, which cost us, about 20 dollars for the whole family dinner. So, in general, cheaper than what we had been paying in Singapore.

What is Legoland Malaysia Theme Park’s Opening Hours?
The park is open from Sunday -Monday and Wed – Friday from 10.00 am – 6.00 pm, and Saturday times are from 10.00 am to 7.00 pm.
Please note – currently the Legoland Singapore Theme Park is closed on Tuesdays and the Legoland Malaysia Water Park is closed on Wednesdays each week. Be sure to check their website before you visit.
When Should I Visit Legoland Malaysia?
While planning my trip to Legoland, I had read that weekdays were MUCH quieter than the weekend so we went during the week. We had virtually no queues at all, which really worked well for us. It was also outside Australian and Singapore school holiday times. That being said, here are some things to considering before booking your Legoland Singapore vacation.
Make sure you check when Malaysia and Singapore school holidays are. If at all possible you will want to avoid visiting during these times. Should you happen to visit during these times, be prepared for long waits in line for rides and a very crowded park. If you have the funds, and are visiting during a busy time, look into the VIP passes which (among other things) allow you priority access to rides and attractions.
Another consideration is the weather. Legoland Johor has a warm and tropical climate, similar to Singapores. There is little change in the weather from month to month. Because of the climate, heat and tropical downpours are a consideration when planning a trip. It most likely will be hot and unexpected showers can occur.
Attractions Nearby to Legoland Malaysia / in Johor Bahru
MCM Studios Indoor Theme Park
Taking up the entire 3rd and 4th floor of Capital 21 Mall, the MCM Studios is said to be the biggest indoor theme park in all of Asia.
Each of the attractions can be visited (and paid for) individually or you can purchase an all day pass. Truthfully this indoor theme park is suited more for smaller kiddos. The attractions and rides are geared towards kids ages 3 – 8. While they may find some enjoyment or photo ops here and there, tween and teens would probably find most of it too childish.
Desaru Coast Water Park
If you love water parks and are staying around Johor, the Desaru Coast Water Park is worth a visit. There is something for everyone here. For little kids there is a dedicated area called “Kid’s Ahoy” with rides and play areas just for kids under 122cm (4 feet). For adults and older kids there is a huge tidal wave beach (one of the biggest in the world), a water coaster, water slides, a lazy river, and other areas to play. This is a great water park in Malaysia to visit.

Istana Bukit Serene
The Istana Bukit Serene is the royal palace of the Sultan of Johor. Being that it is also the official residence for the Sultan of Johor, you cannot tour the inside of the palace. However, you are able to walk through the manicured gardens and enjoy the spectacular views out of the Straight of Johor. Many celebrations take place on the grounds so make sure to see if anything is going on during your visit.
Best Hotel Near Legoland Malaysia
Somerset Medini Iskandar Puteri
These serviced apartments are located just a mere 2,000 feet from the entrance to Legoland Johor Bahru. The Somerset Medina Iskandar Puteri is a great property for families. They feature air conditioned units all with balconies and kitchenettes. There is also a kids club and babysitting service upon request. And, there is an outdoor pool and fully equipped gym.
Perhaps one of the best parts about the Somerset Medini Iskandar Puteri is that it is located a mere 5-minute walk from the Medina Mall. This is were we chose to eat most of our meals while visiting Legoland Malaysia. There are many restaurants and fast food places serving local and international cuisine and an affordable price. Hotel Ramada Meridin Johor Bahru
Another great choice is the Hotel Ramada Meridin Joho Bahru. The hotel provides a free shuttle to and from Legoland and offers all the amenities you can expect from a Ramada by Wyndham hotel. This is one of the nearest hotel to Legoland Malaysia.
There is a kids play room, two outdoor pools, a gym, and two on-site restaurants! If you are looking to prepare your own food, several room options also offer kitchenettes. This is a great all-around family property if you are visiting Legoland Malaysia. Check here for current rates.
Grand Medini at JB City Homestay
The Grand Medini at the JB City Homestay is another great serviced apartment accommodation choice. This four-star option offers a large infinity pool, Lego themed kids play room, fully-equipped gym and free wifi. The amenities in each apartment are spectacular! They include a washer and dryer, fireplace, large bathroom with bidet, and kitchenette area with microwave and refrigerator.

The Verdict – Our Review Legoland Malaysia Theme Park
In conclusion, Legoland Malaysia is very hot, and also probably slightly dated, but in terms of being the perfect first theme park for our children aged 9, and 5 (and the baby at 7 months) it was beyond awesome.
Was the hotel at Legoland Malaysia worth the splurge? Absolutely, it was for us. You had us with the mirror balls and disco music in the lifts and the Lego filled lobby, let alone the room. We loved the rooftop pool with views out over Legoland. We found that the location was perfect and maximized our time spent in Legoland Singapore. Oh, add also that we went during the week, which was recommended, and we had virtually no queues at all, which really worked well for us.
