Why did we Write This List Of Amazing Tree Top Walks?

Our kids love the Tree Top Walk at the Valley of the Giants near Walpole Western Australia (link to Western Australia) and recently we were talking about our last visit when I mentioned that there were many other tree top walks in the world.

Miss 8’s eyes lit up and she exclaimed, “I want to visit them all”! She loves canopy walkways.  Mumma traveler backpedaled, but after some chatting and some Googling (currently an activity that Mumma and Miss 8 enjoy a lot) we have put together a bucket list of Tree Top Walks!

What Is The Difference Between A Tree Top Adventure And A Tree Top Walk, Or Tree Top Canopy Walk

In our searching, we discovered that the terminology does mean different things – a Tree Top Adventure tends to be a ropes course or zip line – something that is in the trees of an adventurous nature.  A tree top walk is a walk (ie, not as adventurous as a zip line) amongst the trees, while the tree top canopy walks are even higher again, taking you through the canopy of the trees.

Fun Facts:  What Is A Forest Canopy?

What is the forest canopy? It refers to the top part of the forest (in tech terms the upper layer or habitat zone) which is created by the crowns (tops) of the trees.  The treetop canopy has a very important job in making the whole forest ecosystem work. This is because it controls the climate in the forest through the exchange of heat, water and gases.

Best Tree Top Walks Australia

Australia likes “big things”!  Yes, all around Australia there are some very quirky and funny large structures.  Places like the giant merino and big banana are definitely a spot for a photo stop.  Yes, this is in the time BEFORE smartphones and selfies.  This Mumma toured the East Coast of Australia as nineteen year and her album is full of photos of big things.

Anyways, with that background, Australians have a ‘thing’ for big things.  In writing this summary of the best tree top walks in the world,  we came to the conclusion that the Aussies also have a thing for tree top adventures and canopy walkways.  Of all the continents on the list, Australia definitely has its fair share of tree top walkways.

What is a cantilever?  In short, a cantilever is a beam anchored at only one end.  The longer the span (or bridge) the cooler it looks!  And if you start talking to your friends about cantilevers you will sound pretty cool.  I just mentioned it because at our next notable tree top walk there is a cantilever bridge over a creek and it sounds fantastic!

Treetop Walk Singapore & Malaysia

If you are looking for a treetop walk in Singapore or Malaysia, you won’t be disappointed.  With some spectacular rainforest in these equatorial nations, it makes sense that they have also opted to build some special canopy walkways!  However, first on the list of treetop walk Singapore is one of the most unique tree top walks in the entire world.

OCBC Skywalk in Singapore

We didn’t just say that this was a collection of Tree Top walks amongst real trees did we?  In short, if you live on a tiny island without the amazing rainforest of your neighboring countries, why not create your own?

That is exactly what Singapore did.  On reclaimed land, they built their very own rainforest including a supertree grove that is quite simply out of this world.  Yes, if you are into futuristic design, the HSBC Tree Top Walk should definitely be on your bucket list.

The OCBC Skyway Singapore, like the others on this list, is a treetop walk way through the trees.  At 128 meters long, the walk way is between two supertree groves.  The height of the walk is 16 meters and not only do you get a great view of the supertrees but also of the stunning Singapore city.

We visited at around 9 am in the morning which was already too hot in the heat of Singapore.  Another great option is to visit during the early evening (like sunset).  Even before the amazing sound and light show, the OCBC Gardens by the Bay Garden Rhapsody.
